Salvage division

Throughout his almost 40-year career, Phil has seen a lot of salvage that has not been given the full attention that it deserves. Some salvage can represent a large potential return to underwriters while other salvage, not so much. What is a fact though is that it all has to be dealt with.

As adjusters, we have so many tasks that we have to take care of. By the time we resolve all the claims, too often the salvage falls victim to a “just get rid of it” scenario.

More than ten years ago, we started to build a stand alone salvage company that is totally separate from the adjusting community. We started Underwriters Salvage Company with the purpose of building a company that didn’t adjust claims but one that could be a real asset to adjusters and insurance companies alike. We have set up Underwriters Salvage Company to help reduce adjuster workloads while maximizing returns to the insurance company.

Unfortunately, ten years ago, starting another company wasn’t feasible. Luckily, we had great clients that wanted to use us for claims adjusting and were willing to accept the disposal of salvage the way it always was. It wasn’t something I was willing to sacrifice my quality with Leading Edge Investigations just to say that I had another company. As with any company, personnel is key and it wasn’t until 2020 that we found that person. Jim Cohrs had recently taken an early retirement from Verizon Wireless where he was a director in charge of all of their call centers worldwide. Jim and I formed Underwriters Salvage Company as equal partners and have been growing it slowly so we can make sure we are meeting the needs of sellers and buyers alike.

Our business model isn’t unique, but there are many things that set us apart from the competition. We make it easy for our customers to do business with us and we provide the information necessary to the buyers so they will give our customers the best possible return on investment.
